An interview with the BritisCoordinator, Meera. h School's

We interviewed the coordinator of the British school on Thursday 26th  March in the library to know more about the school bus service.
THE SUBSCRIBERS
There are 7 buses at the British School for 170 pupils who have a yearly subscription. Only one third of the pupils use this service and the coordinator knows that if the routes were better, the numbers of subscribers would increase. This service isn't offered to teachers who have different timetables. The school doesn't allow children under 6 years old to use the bus service.

THE BUSES
Among the seven British School's buses, there are five rented buses and two buses which the School owns and uses for day trips (swimming pool, museum...)
There are approximately 30 seats in a bus. There is one driver, one conductor and one school staff who checks the attendance register.
The coordinator gave us the criterion of a good bus. It must have:
- CNG
- a speed governor, to prevent the bus from driving over 45 miles per hour.
- fixed windows and bars across them
- seat belts
- fire extinguisher
- water dispenser
- a medical kit
- an area to keep bags
Maintenance is an important aspect: the buses  are checked on a daily basis (brakes...). Once in three months, the CNG is also checked and there is also an annual check by the government. The buses should berecognized by the Transport Authority and the bus companies must show their certificates to the school to prove the safety measures are met
The School doesn't make profit out of this service, it is cost-efficient.

TIMING
In the morning, the students should wait at the meeting point 5 minutes before the bus arrives because the bus doesn't wait for more than 1 minute for the pupils. The timings are respected all in all on the way to school.
On the way back, the coordinator is in charge of messaging the parents if the bus is late
The students can only get off the bus at the designated bus stop and not at any other stop.

ADVANTAGES
Meera's conclusion on the bus service was that it was safer, greener, and there was less traffic in front of the school. The students can also make new friends and they have more independence
